Who owns Windermere Jetty Museum?

Lakeland Arts took ownership of the site in 2007 and after an extensive renovation project, we reopened in Spring 2019 and were officially launched by HRH The Prince of Wales. Today, the collection comprises 40 boats covering the history of sailing on Windermere from the late 18th century.

Are dogs allowed in Windermere Jetty Museum?

The museum is fully wheelchair accessible but due to the historic nature of our launches, our heritage boat trips are not accessible to wheelchair users. Assistance dogs are welcome in the museum and café.

A Model Boating Pond is also part of the museum and people can bring along their mini boats to sail here for free. Did you know that…? The unique collection of historic steamboats and motorboats include the SL Dolly of 1850 – the oldest mechanically powered boat in the world, with its original engine still in running order.

What can you see at the Boathouse Museum?

In the main exhibition gallery you can see steam launches, sailing yachts, motor boats and record-breaking speed boats. Vessels on the water in the Boathouse include Swallow and Amazon from the BBC film adaptation of Arthur Ransome’s classic book. Live conservation takes place at the museum.
