The sound on it is quite good with my Logitech G430 headset. If you were interested in sound production or music editing or some other audio driven application like that, then it MIGHT make sense for you to get a sound card. But realistically it is plenty good for most users.

I know there is very little details about Realtek audio chipsets, but it seems like ALC892 is actually a bit worse than 889 (except for one or two features). This PNG says so. And the new AMD AM3+ motherboards all tend to have ALC889 audio chipsets instead of ALC892, which I doubt is for cost reasons.
