Why did Stoner use forged materials in his guns?
Eugene Stoner was an aerospace guy before he got into the gun business. THAT is why he included forged alloys, polymers, etc. into his designs; he knew his materials. The “cheap alloy” used in an M16 receiver is, in fact 7075 alloy, not something you get from the corner hardware shop.
