Last year alone, the business donated over $1,240,000 to sanitation and healthcare projects around the world. Aseem Das founded World Centric in 2004. Although a software engineer by trade, Das says he wanted to find a way to engage his passion for social and environmental issues. He started World Centric.

Production will begin this summer in Aloterra’s Ohio plant. The products will be available for foodservice operators – including quick service restaurants – shortly thereafter. The Aloterra – World Centric partnership is one of both desire and necessity.

They are microwaveable up to 2-3/4 minutes for unlined products and 5-3/4 minutes for lined products.
What are World centric products made of?
World Centric compostable to-go containers are made from natural and renewable materials such as sugarcane bagasse, wheat straw and corn starch. These renewable materials help to pull carbon from the air and are regrown every year.

How long does bagasse (sugarcane) take to fully biodegrade in the compost? Bagasse or sugarcane is fully compostable and breaks down best in commercial compost facilities. In commercial composting conditions, bagasse will compost in approximately 45-60 days.
Is World Centric really compostable?
Our products are certified compostable by the Biodegradable Products Institute to meet ASTM D6400 and ASTM D6868 standards for compostability.

World Centric’s molded fiber cutlery is made from discarded sugarcane and rapidly renewable bamboo fibers, reducing a source of plastic leakage into the environment.

What are the disadvantages of bagasse as a food packaging material? In spite of its high level of resistance to both hot and cold temperatures, bagasse may lose some of its strength when used to hold foods hotter than 95 degrees Celsius. Otherwise, as a food packaging material, bagasse is faultless.
