Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa announced it is going into voluntary liquidation with the Covid-19 pandemic proving to be the final straw for the business. It is the fourth hotel in the north-east to close during the pandemic.

Built on land gifted to Arbroath Abbey by Alexander II in 1244, Ardoe House dates from the 19th century and is set in 30 acres of parkland. The son of Aberdeen soap merchant – Alexander “Soapy” Ogston – built the house in 1878. It remained a family home until 1947 when it was converted to a hotel.

My Husband booked the Ardoe house because we were getting married in the city and wanted it to be special. He booked the feature room because it looked fabulous on the website. When we arrived the receptionist realised her mistake, she had checked-in another couple into our room moments before we arrived.
